This could well be a quintessential 'Luck By Chance' moment for costume designer turned actress Ayesha Khanna. While it is a known fact that the pretty girl from Delhi had earlier been assigned to Harman Baweja starrer DISHKIYAOON as a stylist (before being summoned by film's producer Shilpa Shetty to step into the shoes of the leading lady), not many are aware that she was the 99th girl who eventually made it into the Sunil Lulla production.
Says Sanamjit Singh Talwar, the film's director, 'Yes, I had auditioned 98 girls and such was our luck that we just couldn't find the right girl for the part. In fact when we actually managed to finalize one, there was some issue and she couldn't eventually do the film. This is when I remembered Ayesha whom I had actually reached out a year ago and given her an offer to step in as the leading lady.'
Apparently, once Ayesha had stepped into DISHKIYAOON as a stylist, Sanamjit found good potential in her as an actress. However the girl, who had been associated with Yash Raj Films as a stylist for quite a few films, didn't take the offer seriously and preferred her original job. Many months passed by and when things didn't work out with 98 other girls, Sanamjit returned to his original choice.
Smiles Ayesha, 'I thought ki chalo jo hoga dekha jaayega. After all, I didn't have any acting background and was pretty sure I would be rejected. Guess the very fact that I wasn't taking myself too seriously worked in my favor. I gave the audition and was immediately on. Later when Sanamjit started bragging that I was the 99th girl to be chosen for the film, I had to remind him that I was actually the first.'
Now one waits to see if this 99th girl manages to hit a 100 with her very first film once DISHKIYAOON releases all over on 28th March.
