Jon Fravreau’s follow-up to 2016 record earner THE JUNGLE BOOK is the live action remake of the immensely loved 1994 animated film of the studio THE LION KING. Disney has announced it’s all star line up and the list makes the excitement for the 2019 African savanna adventure scale new heights.
It must be recalled that Donald Glover as Simba and James Earl Jones as Mufasa were already announced and the latest addition to raise the voice in enchanting chorus is the DESTINY CHILD fame Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as the lioness Nala.
The full cast also includes Chiwetel Ejiofor as the scheming Scar, Alfre Woodard as Simba’s mother – Sarabi, John Oliver as Zasu, and John Kani as Rafiki with Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner as Simba’s friends Pumbaa and Timon. For the trio of hyena henchmen, Disney has enlisted Florence Kasumba, Eric André, and Keegan-Michael Key. Young performers JD McCrary and Shahadi Wright Joseph will voice the child versions of Simba and Nala.
Touted to be utilizing pioneering filmmaking techniques to bring treasured characters to life in a whole new way, THE LION KING journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born, the story of love, pride, betrayal and drama is set to roar into theaters on July 19, 2019.
Disney has a packed line up of live-action takes that includes MULAN, THE LITTLE MERMAID, DUMBO and ALADDIN.
