The casting division girl from YRF, Bhumi Pednekar has wowed the audiences with her stellar performance in her debut film DUM LAGA KE HAISHA. She has only proved that size really doesn’t matter if you possess oodles of talent. And she is on cloud nine with the way audience has received her in the very first film. “I am very overwhelmed. I can’t believe people are appreciating and understanding our subject. But I am nervous also and going through mixed emotions right now. It all seems like a dream. I am feeling like a parallel universe is running and I am observing as a third person. I can’t sink in this feeling. There is so much gratitude. One needs to have faith in oneself and one can achieve anything,” says Bhumi with a glee in her eyes.

While she served the backend of YRF office, interestingly she always had a secret dream to be an actor. Nevertheless, she couldn’t voice her desire. She says, “I always wanted to be an actor but I was never vocal about it. I had flair for acting but was apprehensive in approaching because there is always expectation of actors looking visually appealing. But somewhere deep down in my heart I definitely cherished it and I knew that someday it might turn true. I didn’t have any motives but I had the intention to become an actor.”
Ask if the idea of joining YRF team was to get into films and she says, “Not at all. I was working on films and I love working on it. I didn’t have such motives to join YRF. It has been my school and I have learnt a lot in six years. I joined when I was 18 and today I am 25. People here are lovely to work with. I don’t think there is any certain way of promoting your talent in YRF. If you are talented you will get a chance. I feel opportunities are equal for everyone. You have to prove your craft.”
A lot of comparisons are being drawn between Bhumi Pednekar and Parineeti Chopra, since the latter was also an ex-employee of YRF (PR and Marketing executive). “It’s a huge compliment to be even compared with her. Parineeti has done excellent job and she is a great actress. I feel elated going down or even walking down her lane,” says an ecstatic Bhumi.
Yash Raj banner has been well-known in portraying their heroines in a peculiar style on celluloid. However, the prestige banner has now changed the way they showcase their actresses. Bhumi too agrees, ”Absolutely. People are accepting de-glam the way it is. They are ready for change and they want to see good performances. Having said that, it’s not necessary that de-glam look makes performance good. YRF has taken the step as they are ready to accept new scripts. I have always enjoyed actresses clad in chiffon sarees. Since I am also part of the audience, my thinking has also changed. We are breaking conventional tags.”
But quiz her if she missed being the quintessential Yash Raj heroine and she says, ”Not really, because in the song ‘Dard Karara’ from the film, I got to wear colourful sarees and dance around trees. I always wanted to re-live 90s era and I got to do that.”
Bhumi is all praise of her director Sharat Katariya. She says, ”The way Sharat sir has conceived the film it’s brilliant. The characters in DUM LAGA are honest and real emotions have been tapped.”
Also starring Ayushmann Khurrana, DUM LAGA KE HAISHA released all over on February 27, 2015
