Fortuitously it fell into the hands of Kareena Kapoor, but HEROINE is taking the lead amongst the films that will be released in quick succession, where the female star is in the lead role, or rather she has taken on the responsibility to carry the film on her shoulders. For Kareena Kapoor this is nothing new as she had already demonstrated it with CHAMELI, produced by Pritish Nandy Communications, where she had carried the film on her shoulders and had announced to the world her arrival as a performer in a big way. Indeed, after CHAMELI Kareena Kapoor literally bulldozed her way into the A-category films in a big way. With HEROINE, maybe she could take it forward to the next level, and set the sense of anticipation for other three films to follow i.e. ENGLISH VINGLISH, AIYYAA and ISHKQ IN PARIS, sort of comeback films for Sridevi, Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta where they are playing author backed roles.

This is a new trend being experienced in the world of Hindi cinema and it is in sync with the changing times that our society is going, where the relative position of a woman is now being viewed through a new prism, i.e. her existence as an individual does not get subsumed after her marriage, even if she is over thirty there is no problem in playing the role of teenager enacting a romantic character- after all the mainstream actors over forty still are playing the role of a youth of 20-25 years, and if she so wishes she can take a chance at the box office to pursue her acting career once again.

This change that is being experienced in the world of Hindi cinema is also on account of the advent of new producers and directors as it is with Sridevi in ENGLISH VINGLISH directed by first time director Gauri Shinde and produced by R. Balki and for Rani Mukherjee with AIYYAA which is being produced by Anurag Kashyap and Guneet Monga and directed by Marathi Director, or because of the self-belief in the actor themselves to have a second shot at the box office as it is happening with Preity Zinta with ISHKQ IN PARIS which is being produced by her.
The emergence of the new thought process is on account of the paradigm shift in the age profile of the human resource personnel available in the industry, which is not at all concerned with the age profile of the performers but is inclined to leverage on the capabilities that these stars have displayed as performers. It indeed is a welcome change for the female actors in the world of Hindi cinema, as an option of comeback provides an opportunity to experiment with a different genre of cinema in these changing times, outside the conventional role of a mother, a sister or a mother-in-law which otherwise was the fate of a female actor when she had attained a certain age.
