The critically maligned EK VILLAIN has embarked on a bumper start all over. In fact the Mohit Suri directed, Riteish Deshmukh, Shraddha Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra starrer, EK VILLAIN, is all set to be one of the top opening day grossers of the year. The only circuit where EK VILLAIN has seen just a good start (not bumper!) is East Punjab, where it faces a stiff challenge from the Punjabi film, PUNJAB 1984.
Given the star cast of EK VILLAIN and the moderate budget, the opening can even be classified as blockbuster, as per some trade experts.

Meanwhile, last week’s Vashu Bhagnani produced and Sajid Khan directed Saif-Riteish starrer, HUMSHAKALS, saw a good opening week, netting 55 crore from India. What is important to note is that despite a bashing on the social media as also scathing reviews, HUMSHAKALS managed stable weekdays after a good opening weekend.
Concluding with the A. R. Murugadoss directed, Akshay Kumar-Sonakshi Sinha starrer, HOLIDAY- A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY, the film added another 10 crore , thus netting 110 crore in 3 weeks from India. The film is not only a hit plus, but also the biggest grosser (and netter) of the first half of 2014, surpassing Salman Khan’s JAI HO (109 crore).
