The much-awaited film of Deepika Padukone ‘Chhapak's trailer is out. The movie is based on the real-life incident of an acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal.
Chhapaak means Splash. The film will show the journey of an acid attack survivor. Meghna Gulzar is a keen observer and has developed a taste for the real cinema. She pens down those stories which she believes will leave an impact in any form.
The trailer shows Malti (Deepika Padukone) was attacked with acid on a street in New Delhi, in 2005. Through her story, the film makes an attempt to understand the on-ground consequences of surviving an acid attack in India, the medico-legal-social state of affairs that transpires after the acid has been hurled and the face is irreparably burnt.
Chhapaak is a story of acid violence. The basic act of acid violence violates the human rights of the person who is attacked by acid and their life, their physicality is changed forever.
Laxmi Agarwal was attacked in 2005 at age 15, by a 32-year-old man whose advances she had rejected. She is the Founder of Stop Sale Acid, a campaign against acid violence and sale of acid. Laxmi started this campaign with #StopSaleAcid which garnered nationwide support.
The film stars Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey in lead roles. It is directed by Meghna Gulzar, produced by Fox Star Studios, Deepika Padukone, Govind Singh Sandhu, and Meghna Gulzar, The film is slated to release in January 2020.
