Synopsis Bhadrakali Productions holds a special place in Marathi commercial theatre. Founded by Macchindra Kambli in 1982, this theatre production house posed a definitive challenge to the established names of Marathi theatre of the time. With the cult play 'Vastraharan', Macchindra Kambli brought Malwani language & culture, and working-class people onto centre-stage, both literally and figuratively – opening up the domain of Marathi commercial theatre to new stories, cultures and audiences. Three decades and 5,000 shows later, Prasad continues the founding spirit of Bhadrakali Productions, seeking to once again bring new energy and direction to Marathi commercial theatre. In this Mumbai Local, he will share with us how and why Bhadrakali Productions produced more than fifty plays and the efforts he is taking to define new directions and encourage new voices.
Prasad Kambli is the head of Bhadrakali Productions. Bhadrakali Productions has successfully produced plays of varied genre, from music to mystery, from comedy to tragedy, from realism to satire.
