Just when one had thought that Deepika Padukone had fitted firmly into quintessential Bollywood cinema mode with four back to back centuries, she has thrown a twist in the tale with a refreshingly different FINDING FANNY. While it was a known fact that this Homi Adajania film is primarily in English, the manner in which Deepika has turned around her entire body language, mannerisms, facial expressions and diction in this whole new affair has made people stand up and notice her act.

It hasn’t been entirely surprisingly though. After all, it was Homi’s COCKTAIL which had brought a turnaround in the perception one carried around Deepika. Though she was doing well as an actress with a glamorous persona to boast of, she showed a different facet of her acting talent with COCKTAIL where she came trumps even with a much senior Saif Ali Khan around. Finally, the industry had hailed her in unison that she was an actor to reckon with, something that had made Farah Khan, the woman who had launched her in OM SHANTI OM, proud too. She is said to have exclaimed – ‘Deepika toh actor ban gayi’.
Circa 2014 and it is pretty much on the cards that many more voices would approve on the same lines, what with the whole stage and set up of FINDING FANNY requiring her to let go off her Bollywood comfort and step into an altogether different territory where she has to play natural while maintaining a line which she doesn’t cross to get into an art house zone.
No wonder, in whatever we see of her in the promo of the film, she is being witty, confident, charming and self-assured while succeeding well in making one forget that she is the same Deepika who was merrily dancing away to glory in CHENNAI EXPRESS, YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI, RAM-LEELA AND RACE 2 last year.
In that lies her real win actually!
