The tag of an ‘Ultimate Party Girl’ is not the only one that Deepika Padukone would have against her name now. With her ‘Garba’ number ‘Dhol Baaje’ from RAM LEELA out on screen, she has pretty much made a strong statement to those who felt that it would be hard for the numero uno actress to step into the zone that Sanjay Leela Bhansali had set for her.

‘From playing a swimsuit clad hottie in RACE 2 to getting into the ‘lehenga-choli’ zone of RAM-LEELA, it has indeed been some journey for Deepika, and all in a matter of one year,’ comments an observer, ‘Though she had gone through some classical moves in her debut Hindi film OM SHANTI OM as well (remember ‘Dhoom Tana’), over a period of time she has been associated with numerous dance, party and club numbers. However one look at ‘Dhol Baaje’ and one can see that there is a conscious effort by Deepika to show her prowess as a dancer on an altogether different stage and setting.
It wasn’t easy though for Deepika. While she knew from the very onset that with Sanjay Leela Bhansali calling the shots, it wouldn’t really be a cakewalk on the sets of RAM-LEELA, there were added requirements of donning elaborate costumes and still coming up with the classical dance moves.

‘There was good preparation undertaken by her,’ confirms a source attached to the film, ‘While she was in the middle of as many as five films which were on the floors, she had slotted time for her dance rehearsals. There was no way she could have stepped on to the sets unprepared. Since a ‘Garba’ number isn’t something that she has done film after film, Deepika wanted to make sure that her dance moves went with the theme and flavour of ‘Dhol Baaje’. Expectations from Sanjay Leela Bhansali were simple too which is – ‘Let yourself free and uninhibited’.’
Guess Deepika pretty much took these expectations in her stride and results are there to be seen. As for how it all appears on the big screen, one waits for 15th November when this co-production of Sunil Lulla and Sanjay Leela Bhansali hits the screens all over.
