Ask Deepika who came up with this unique idea and she says, “Somewhere we have all contributed in whatever way possible. PIKU is a very personal journey of Piku & baba. Even in the moments that you see between the characters, I think, more than the story it’s about the characters. Even in terms of our communication, we have tried to keep it is intimate & personal as possible & this was one of the ideas we came up with.”
How did it feel like playing the girl next door, “The first time Shoojit came and met me for the film, I remember saying yes to the film just based on one scene. I said that’s it, I am on. I think for me being Piku is a character that is very relatable and then of course there are the situations within the films that you will see and every one of us will identify with, especially for the girls who are working, who also have parents to take care of them. Women generally are born to multitask. So, all the women will find it very relatable.”
Being a story based on a father-daughter Deepika was asked how relatable is this story to her real life to which she said, “Every daughter & father will relate to what Piku & baba go through because they are very relatable characters & very relatable situations and it’s what all of us go through in our lives at some point; right from growing up to working & talking care of your parents. At the end of the day we are all working women, we multitask take care of our parents, we have a social life, we want to go out with our friends and you want a little time to yourself also. It’s not only me and my dad, every girl will relate to this.”
PIKU will be directed by Shoojit Sircar and produced by NP Singh, Ronnie Lahiri and Shena Rajani. Also starring Amitabh Bachchan & Irrfan Khan, the film is set to release on 8th May, 2015.
