Dia Mirza: Didn’t turn producer to extend my innings as an actor

Though Vidya Balan entered the film industry much after Dia Mirza, as an actor and producer they found some good camaraderie going for them during the making of BOBBY JASOOS. Even though she had featured as a leading lady in her debut production LOVE BREAKUPS ZINDAGI, when it came to a much meaty female centric outing BOBBY JASOOS, she entrusted Vidya to step into the part.

‘I was asked that why I didn’t cast myself in the film. But then I didn’t turn producer because I wanted to extend my innings as an actor,’ says Dia, ‘I have always been sure to cast only that person in the film who would do complete justice to the story, In case of BOBBY JASOOS, Vidya Balan was always the best bet.’

As it turned out, it wasn’t just a great outing for the two ladies professionally as even personally they found some common ground going for them.

‘When the film releases, I am sure every leading lady in the country would wish that she had done this film,’ says Dia in a proud tone, ‘There are certain stories that resonate emphatically with a person’s own personal ambition. I know that BOBBY JASOOS is one such story. Moreover, Vidya has enacted the part with so much conviction that she has indeed turned out to be Bobby herself.’

With Vidya returning to play a central protagonist two years after KAHAANI, one indeed looks forward to what she has in store with BOBBY JASOOS which is pretty much tailor-made for her.

Says Dia, ‘Well, Vidya was always our first choice. This is a moment of great pride and joy for us; more so since Vidya is so selective about the films that she does. I think to have her in the film is nothing short of a dream come true.’
