When asked Dinesh if he was convinced when Sriram told him about casting Varun for this film he said, ”Sriram didn’t say that, but he wanted an older guy. At that time, Varun was just one film (STUDENT OF THE YEAR) old, he didn’t have anything else and I just liked his face. He is the youngest looking actor. So I just said, that this kind of story would have more access if you felt someone who is just about living life and everything is taken away from him, the connect would be better and the journey of what happens to him would be more interesting. Sriram liked the idea of having a younger actor and at the same time Varun called… so I believe its destiny! Then he came by and I narrated the first draft to him. Although Sriram was a little pessimistic, he believes the best thing to happen to BADLAPUR is Varun.”
”Varun is such a committed actor, he has crazy energy. Sriram had to kind of put it in a bottle and not let it come out. I think it’s a very mature performance. He has managed to become the ‘Raghu’ Sriram wanted him to be,” he added.
Directed by Sriram Raghavan & produced by Dinesh Vijan & Sunil Lulla, BADLAPUR also stars Yami Gautam, Huma Qureshi, Divya Dutta, Radhika Apte, Vinay Pathak & others and is set to release on 20th February, 2015.
