An admirer of Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s blend of comedy, for Dipesh Jain drama comes naturally and it’s the most integral part of storytelling, “ Ask anyone and it will be the classics of Guru Dutt, Raj Kapoor in Bollywood that are considered as masterpiece, drama has been the most integral part of storytelling, that’s the reason the cinema of Satyajit Ray, Guru Dutt over here, Polanski, Bergman, Tarkovsky, Scorsese, remains an inspiration”.

“ Life cannot be all good, the gravitas of human nature needs to be told, it’s also a part of human behavior, if everybody will shy away from telling the other side of the story then.. I don’t intend to be labeled as a radical but I just want to explore the dramatic behavior of humans which changes and can touch the audience, any story that can engage and captivate the audience is entertainment in my opinion and drama is an important part”, he adds.

The Los Angeles-based filmmaker who won the Director Guild of America Award for his thought provoking short film 11 WEEKS concludes by saying, “ If humour is Raju Hirani’s forte where he touches the social concerns, drama is my favourite tool and exploring the gravitas of human emotions comes natural to me, in GALI GULEIYAN I have tried to metaphorically convey the conflict between the darkness inside humans, the emotional entrapment, loneliness, togetherness, child abuse, and more, it’s basically a human story which anyone can identify with”.
