While the world is awestruck by the glam quotient of celebrities displayed at Cannes, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is satisfying the urge of the concern audience who care for quality cinema and expressed that MANTO is an inspiration. Read further.
MANTO the biopic based on the renowned Indo-Pakistani writer Saadat Hasan Manto is a joint production by HP Studios, Viacom 18, Sameer Dixit & Jatish Varma of Movie Makers. Helmed by actress turned filmmaker Nandita Das, the movie’s first look was unveiled at the 70th Cannes Film Festival to attract potential international buyers.
Calling it something special and close to her heart, Nandita Das shared, “MANTO holds a special place in my heart, I was greatly inspired by the writer in my college days. I always wanted to make a film on him. His thoughts and ideologies are exceptionally contemporary and have stood test of time. His feminist views and belief in power of truth are timeless.'
An overwhelmed Nawazuddin Siddiqui expressing the same sentiments added, “I hope the film inspires people to speak the truth fearlessly.'
The movie is more than 50% complete and is expected to wrap by mid-June.
Featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead role along with Tahir Raj Bhasin & Rasika Duggal, MANTO also has some pivotal roles played by Rishi Kapoor, Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar among others.
