In an interview Madhur Bhandarkar candidly confessed, ”Although I have studied only till class six, yet I have a passion for reading and an eye for observation. It is my talent for observation that has helped me in making movies that are close to the society.”
He added, ”In fact my first film CHANDNI BAR was a result of my keen observation of people around me.”
Recalling how the seed of CHANDNI BAR got germinated he said, ”On the first day of the release my debut film TRISHAKTI, I was completely disappointed. When I went around the theatres where the movie was released in Mumbai, I was utterly depressed by the poor response. Late in the evening I was sitting with my friend in somber mood. My friend understood my depression hence to cheer me up he took me to a nearby dance bar.”
”Since I had never been to any dance bar I was agonized to see the pity of the dancing girls. I could vividly observe their false smile and read the trauma in their eyes. I immediately rushed out of the bar. Later I read many articles about bar girls in newspapers and books and penned the story of CHANDNI BAR!”
