Gulzar, one of Bollywood’s finest poet couldn’t have asked for better on his 83rd birthday.
The exceptional poet who has arguably made the best use of chand (moon) in his poetry and made remarkable films like AANDHI, MAUSAM, ANGOOR, MAACHIS will finally see his 1988 film LIBAAS starring Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi hitting the marquee.
PTI reports that Zee Classic with its brand proposition ‘Woh Zamaana Kare Deewana’ yesterday announced the theatrical release of the movie. LIBAAS starring Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi was made in 1988 but remained in the archives of the Directorate of Film?Festivals for years. It will be distributed by Zee Studios in India.
It’s good news for all Gulzar fans who are waiting for decades to watch LIBAAS which was left for decaying in the archives of the Directorate of Film Festivals.
Revolving around a theatre director Sudhir (Naseeruddin Shah) and his actor wife Seema (Shabana Azmi), the movie is based on Gulzar’s own short story ‘Seema’ from his Raavi Paar collection.
Part of the parallel cinema movement that began in 1950, LIBAAS also stars Raj Babbar, Sushma Seth, Utpal Dutt, Annu Kapoor and Savita Bajaj.
The movie was produced by Vikas Mohan – a renowned veteran trade figure, who has left for the heavenly abode but his sons Amul Vikas Mohan and Anshul Vikas Mohan are realizing their father’s dream.
