Bollywood film and TV producer Ekta Kapoor turned 38 years today
Daughter of veteran actor Jeetendra, she started her career on television and went on to be the queen of soap opera productions that brought her fame and fortune laced with criticism for the crass commercialization of family dramas with predictable saas-bahu storylines and gaudy sets and clothes.

However, Ekta Kapoor silenced her critics with her recent film productions with bold subjects that also saw the stardom of Vidya Balan with THE DIRTY PICTURE, inspired by the life of late actress and southern sex symbol Silk Smitha.
She produced a number of soap operas like 'Hum Paanch', 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi', 'Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii', 'Kasautii Zindagii Kay', 'Kaahin Kissii Roz', 'Kabhii Sautan Kabhii Sahelii', 'Kahiin to Hoga', 'Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil', 'Kasamh Se', 'Kkusum', 'Kutumb', 'Bandini', 'Kitani Mohabbat Hai', 'Tere Liye',' Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani, Parichay-Nayee Zindagi Kay Sapno Ka', 'Gumrah – End Of Innocence' and many others.
The film KYAA KOOL HAI HUM starring her brother Tusshar Kapoor proved to be her breakout hit and went on to become one of the highest earners of 2005.
She then went on to co-produce SHOOTOUT AT LOKHANDWALA with Sanjay Gupta which became her profitable venture at the box office.
The years 2010 and 2011 proved to be important for her with critical and commercial successes such as LOVE SEX AUR DHOKHA (LSD), ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI, SHOR – IN THE CITY, RAGINI MMS, KYAA SUPER KOOL HAIN HUM and the most successful film THE DIRTY PICTURE.
