The BAAHUBALI craze has caught up the entire nation and its refusing to die down anytime soon. Interestingly the makers of this film hardly invested their time and money in coming up with unique or path-breaking strategies to promote this epic-fantasy film.
In fact prior to the film’s release we were wondering why this highly anticipated film is not being promoted in a grand way Bollywood films are promoted these days.
But despite that the film went on to become a massive hit upon its release and has been breaking all previously set records at the box office. The Hindi version of the film itself has raked in approximately 350 crores at the box office. This shows the kind of confidence the makers had in their product.
In general as well South Indian flicks rake in good moolah even without indulging in any promotional activities or marketing gimmicks.
Whereas in Bollywood the makers with every single film come up with brand new marketing strategy to create buzz about their film and usually they go out of their way in order to do so.
So during media interactions of MERI PYAARI BINDU when actor Ayushmann was asked about his opinion on this trait of Bollywood and whether he thinks that the promotional activities are serving their purpose, he honestly replied, “BAAHUBALI is a case study film so I think we should not compare it with any other film at all.
And talking about in general South Indian filmmakers are really very professional. I have recently worked with one director that is R S Prasanna in SHUBH MANGAL SAAVDHAN and he is a thorough professional filmmaker. If our shoot was supposed to end at 9 then it would end dot at 9. There was never a need to stretch a schedule and neither had we ever gone over budget. I think South is more intelligent.”
Well whatever Ayushmann said is quite true. South Indian film industry is way far advanced than Bollywood as this fact is evident from the way Bollywood is obsessed with remake of South Indian films.
South Indian filmmakers are very novel in their story telling techniques and promote Indian style of storytelling for example films like BAAHUBALI and ROBOT whereas Bollywood is busy aping the West.
Even their dubbed films earn good amount of money while Bollywood though it produces some terrific films too but it certainly needs more and more original story ideas and creative directors.
We hope that the filmmakers of Bollywood take a leaf out of books of South directors like SS Rajamouli or Shankar and stop aping the Hollywood.
