Among the elements that make a film super hit in a year is the on-screen chemistry displayed by the lead players in a particular film. From this perspective 2012 has been a rather successful year as the films which have been successful or have won the box office have been able to do it primarily on account of the amazing chemistry that has been shared by the lead players on the screen. Here is a list of such jodis which have ruled the box office on account of the sizzling chemistry of the lead stars:

Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra– AGNEEPATH: At the beginning of the year when AGNEEPATH was released one of the determinants which made this film a superhit was the chemistry of Hrithik and Priyanka, Hrithik restraining the emotions, while Priyanka exuberant in expressing it at the drop of the hat. The ice and fire combination did the trick for AGNEEPATH.

Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor– AGENT VINOD: After a long-long time the pair in love came on the screen and they were really the couple in love, extending their love in real life on to the silver screen. Being an action film the scenes of interaction where few and far in-between, but even then they were charming.

Akshay Kumar and Asin– HOUSEFULL 2 and KHILADI 786: They came together for the first time in HOUSEFULL2 and later in KHILADI 786, and it seemed as they had not been separated as on screen lovers. The mannerism of Akshay Kumar in HOUSEFULL 2 of making his face like the roar of a baby cub and Asin getting floored over it, and the love blossoming in situations of absurdity in both the films made them one of the hit jodis of 2012.

Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha – ROWDY RATHORE: One of the primary reasons how ROWDY RATHORE became a super hit was the on-screen chemistry shared between Sonakshi Sinha and Akshay Kumar in the film, especially in the introduction scene where they get introduced to each other and in the song 'Dhadang Dhang'. May be, as both were enacting the role of characters of common person of the street, it endeared the audience.

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif– EK THA TIGER: The off-screen lovers, who had been together in love for years, when they appeared together on the screen in EK THA TIGER, they literally set the screen on fire with amazing histrionics, fire on fire and ice on ice. The scene that literally stood out for the pair was in the song Lapata and the location shooting in Cuba where both hung on to the bus, serenading each other, as also in the escapade in Cuba and the eye contacts in the process, where couple being in love was manifest in their interactions.

Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif: JAB TAK HAI JAAN – The eternal conductor of love, Yash Chopra in his swan song displayed with panache why he indeed was the god when it came to displaying emotions of love on the screen, and Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif were expressive in their love- especially in Saan mein teri Saans as also in the scenes of love making as a culmination of the whole process when Shah Rukh Khan returns to London, the whole ambience spread out in pristine white, connoting purity of the relationship. Both were indeed the couples in love.

Ajay Devgn and Sonakshi Sinha– SON OF SARDAAR: When a film is crafted with comedy being the reference point, the humour serves as the catalyst to establish rapport with the audience as a hit Jodi. Sonakshi Sinha and Ajay Devgn displayed this with panache in SON OF SARDAAR and the scene where Sonakshi Sinha drives the bike stood out as the scene for the Jodi on the screen and for the audience in the small cities it was their paisa vasool moment on the screen.

Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha – DABANGG 2: It would be interesting to watch out whether this Jodi would carry on with the magic that they displayed in DABANNG last December. From the promos, it seems to be evident and the scene that is going to remain in the minds of the audience associating this pair as a hit Jodi for 2012 would be where Sonakshi Sinha copies the Chulbul Pandey style of putting the glasses on the back of the neck in the collar, Sonakshi doing the same by hanging the glass on her shoulders in her blouse.

One only hopes that 2013 would see more such hit jodis especially some new pairing from the new stars that have emerged on the horizon in 2012.
