The writing was on the wall from the day the promos of BADHAAI HO and NAMSTE ENGLAND were aired first, and despite the naysayers refusing to acknowledge the inevitable, things unfolded as per our predictions. So let’s decode the undecipherable!
Well, we are obviously referring to the two new Dussehra releases, Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s Arjun-Parineeti starrer NAMASTE ENGLAND and Junglee Pictures' Ayushmann, Sanya and Nina Gupta starrer BADHAAI HO. Right from the first show itself, as we had foretold, BADHAAI HO pulverized NAMASTE ENGLAND, netting 7.50 crore on the opening day while NAMASTE ENGLAND could not even cross the 2 crore mark. The second day saw a similar picture with BADHAAI HO widening the gap further ( 9-10 crore haul!) and it is very obvious that BADHAAI HO is on way to a clean hit status, while NAMASTE ENGLAND is a no show.
Checking out the main releases of last week, Pradeep Sarkar directed HELICOPTER EELA, Soham Shah’s horror mythical thriller TUMBBAD, Mukesh Bhatt’s romantic drama JALEBI, Govinda’s FRYDAY, unfortunately all are unmitigated disasters.
Meanwhile, the previous Ayushmann Khurranna starrer, ANDHADHUN, has turned out to be a hit netting 49 crore in two weeks from India. The film has also done very well in the overseas, specially US, crossing the $1m mark already!
