Actresses shedding kilos is passé. Being voluptuous, comfortable and natural is the in thing. Actresses like Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Parineeti Chopra have embraced curvaceous bodies, shunning the size-zero trend. And Huma Qureshi, who has been often targeted for her weight, too believes the same.

She says, ”All the names that you have taken are very good actresses. They have huge fan base and have been part of huge successful films. And they have been part of these films because they are not 4-5 kilos overweight. They are successful because their fans loved them. Size doesn’t really matter for fans and audiences.”
Huma further calls the concept of ‘size-zero’ ridiculous!
”A few years back there was a ridiculous idea that someone invented called size-zero, which was the most absurd thing, unreasonable, unattainable and unmaintainable. It promotes a very negative thinking where you are encouraging young minds, specially girls, that if you don’t look a certain way and if you don’t resort to some unhealthy ways to look like that, then you are not beautiful or pretty. I am so grateful to all these women that they are such powerful actresses to have rubbished such bakwas. I am glad that the trend is sort of gone out. Indian women are beautiful. They have such emotive faces and eyes, beautiful bodies. We should be proud of who we are otherwise you will have all sort of eating disorders. It’s a very important health concern that young women go through. Being a public figure if you endorse such things, then there would be hundreds of girls who will follow in your footsteps. You can’t be responsible for that. That is something you have to be consciously aware of,” says Huma.
Having said that, Huma is also game to loose kilos if a role or a character requires her to do so.
”Absolutely, I will do it. I am an actor and my job is to do my role convincingly. Suppose if a director comes to me with a role of a supermodel or an athlete, wherein I have want to lose weight or acquire a toned body, then I will do it. As an actor it’s my job to look the part or like the character. If I don’t do that, I will not look convincing. But if you tell me that I should be apologetic of how I am looking for no rhyme or reason, then I don’t think that’s cool,” Huma signs off.
