India mourns Rituparno Ghosh’s demise


Politicians and people from different walks of life mourned the death of iconic filmmaker & winner of multiple National Awards, Rituparno Ghosh who passed in Kolkata on Thursday on micro-blogging site.

Information & Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari: ‘Tragic to lose a creative person – Ritu Parno Ghosh That too when he still had a lot to contribute. My profound condolences to his dear ones.’

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi posted: ‘Saddened to hear about unfortunate demise of Rituparno Ghosh. He will be remembered for his brilliant filmmaking. May his soul rest in peace.’

Reacting to his death Trinamool Congress (TMC) Rajya Sabha member Derek O’Brien wrote: ‘A friend for 30 yrs. A neighbour. A buddy from our days in advertising. A champ director. My wife’s fave Kolkatan. Rituparno Ghosh. Gone to[o] soon.’

Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur said: ‘Shocked by passing of Rituparno Ghosh. He was dreaming of getting into what he called his ‘next phase’. Hugely creative explorer on film.Every passing of a friend is a reminder 2 not delay your dreams. The time is not tomorrow. It is now. This moment. RIP Rituparno Ghosh.’

Actor Anupam Kher said: ‘Deeply Saddened & Shocked by the sudden demise of Rituparno Ghosh. He directed BARIWALI, 1st film I produced. Have amazing memories of him. Rituparno Ghosh had called few months back. Offered great role. Was looking fwd to working with him. One of d finest directors of our times. Rituparno Ghosh had great sense of humour. He had a brilliant understanding of human behaviour. Will miss him and his cinema. RIP my Friend.’

Expressing his shock, filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar wrote: ‘I had met Ritu a couple of time, he was a very warm & humorous person. He most definitely will be missed.’
