This is a shift in image that could do wonders to Jimmy Sheirgill and one man he has to thank for that is Akshay Kumar. Even though the chocolate boy from the likes of MOHABBATEIN and MERE YAAR KI SHAADI Hai has tried walking on the edge with some hatke roles, he has never played an out and out villain. This is now changing with Akshay's next, FUGLY where he turns into a bad a$$ Delhi cop named Chautala.
'Akshay was confident that Jimmy would pull off this part despite his Mr. Nice Guy image,' informs a source, 'The two had come together for SPECIAL 26 last year and a 'special' bond had developed between the duo. It has been forever said that Jimmy is one underrated actor who hasn't got his due in the industry despite being around for over a decade and a half. Akshay saw that too and when director Kabir Sadanand felt that Jimmy would be right as Chautala, he had no worry roping him in.'
The film starring primarily youngsters is also the launch pad of boxer Vijender Singh and is about an accidental encounter with this cop that turns awry.
'In fact, when I heard the narration, I could pretty much sense that the story was inspired by a real life situation,' says Jimmy, 'Personally I feel that it is an 'in your face' kind of negative role.'
'Kabir tells me that he had written this part especially for me as he felt that if I played it, I would give it a different shade of villainy. I want to believe him,' he winks, 'Also, it was great to reconnect with Akshay.'
While Akshay did reap fruits of his decision making when he turned Paresh Rawal as the leading man in OMG: OH MY GOD, one hopes his decision to turn Jimmy into a main villain of FUGLY pays off too, when the film releases all over on 13th June.
