Karan Johar has established an empire no less ever over the last decade or so by making some of the most opulent, lavish and big ticket films over the years. In fact right from Shahrukh Khan to newcomers like Varun, Sidharth and Alia, he has delivered big money spinners. However when it came to sharing a platform with the likes of Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Nanerjee and Zoya Akhtar, he was a worried man.
'Yes, initially I was a worried that with these three names attached to BOMBAY TALKIES, I worried being the odd man out. I didn't want to ruin this experiment for them by getting attached to it. After all, I have never made a film which has found critics going crazy. Hence, I didn't want to step in and spoil it for these guys. Till today, I don't know how the story that I am telling in BOMBAY TALKIES would be received,' says Karan Johar who has directed the story which features Rani Mukerji, Randeep Hooda and Saqib Saleem.
No wonder, it indeed required a push for Karan before he actually brought himself on board for the film.
'To tell you the truth, I nearly said no to it. If it wasn't for Zoya who gave me an initial push, I wouldn't have done it. She just said that I had to direct a short story. She motivated me by saying that if not for this, I may not get a chance to make a film like this without the fear of box office looming large on my head. I am glad that eventually I did the film,' says Karan.
Honestly, we are glad as well to see a truly different cinema from you Karan. Now here is hoping that the results are indeed worth it.
