With Karan Johar’s much anticipated multi-starrer, KALANK, being out rightly rejected by the audience, one is reminded of yet another debacle from a top production house, that took place a while back, and in quite the same way.
Yes, indeed we are talking about the shocking failure of Yash Raj’s much talked out and awaited last Diwali extravaganza, multi-starrer, THUGS OF HINDOSTAN that bit the dust quite like Dharma Productions’ KALANK.
While THUGS OF HINDOSTAN, which had Big B and Aamir Khan leading from the front saw a superb opening day of 50 crore and crashed after a good start, KALANK which had stars like Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt managed 22 crore, tanking after a good first day. Post that the film followed the law of diminishing returns, netting 63-64 crore at the end of the extended (5-day) weekend. The only bright spot is that KALANK has taken advantage of the Easter weekend, grossing nearly £1m from UK and $1,765,000 from the US.
In both the cases, there were extreme negative reviews and memes being floated around social media making fun of both the films which resulted in the audience keeping away .
