However, Madan Mohan never regretted as he was never in the race for awards and focused only on quality music. But there was someone very close to Madan Mohan, who felt the pinch whenever Madan Mohan was declined the Award.
Well, she was Lata Mangeshkar, who shared a warm relation with Madan Mohan and also revered him as his brother.
Lata Mangeshkar was first hurt when Madan Mohan was declined award for his musical masterpiece ANPADHin the year 1963. Remember the hit songs ‘Hai Isi Me Pyar Ki Aabru’.., ‘ Jiya Le Gayo Ji Mora Sanwariya’…, ‘Aap Ki Nazron Ne Samjha…’ However, she kept mum.
The second time when Madan Mohan was declined the award for his movie WOH KAUN THI in 1965 she was not only depressed but also quite annoyed and rightly so as each song from the film was a rare gem. Remember the hit parade ‘Lag Jaa Gale Ki Phir Ye Haseen Raat Ho Na Ho…’, ‘Naina Barase Rimjhim Rimjhim…, Jo Hamne Daastaan Apnee Sunaaee Aap Kyoon Roye….’
Nevertheless, she overcame her rage as the award was well deservedly won by the young music duo Laxmikant–Pyarelal for the movie DOSTI.
However, Lata Mangeshkar could not control her anger and was compelled to make a protest at the unfair and unjust jury of Filmfare Awards when Madan Mohan was not even nominated for his film DASTAK (1970).
The reason why Lata Mangeshkar was furious was because in this film Madan Mohan had given the best popular ‘Hindustani Classical’ music. Remember the hit songs ‘Baiyan Na Dharo…’, ‘Hum Hain Mata-e-Koocha-o-Bazaar Ki Tarah…’, ‘Mai Ri Main Kase Kahoon…’.
But finally Lata Mangeshkar found solace when Madan Mohan won the Best Music Director National Award for DASTAK.
