Very much as we had predicted in our weekly box-office report, Shoojit Sircar’s John Abraham starrer, the well-made MADRAS CAFE is receiving glowing reviews from the critics, but the same has not translated into collections. As per the reports, the film has opened to an ordinary 25-30 percent start, which includes the multiplexes as well. Many premier metro multiplexes though are higher at around 40 percent.

Given the positive word-of-mouth, the film saw a pick up during the latter shows, mainly at the high end multiplexes of big cities. However the ‘intelligent’ film (The new nomenclature for realistic cinema!), MADRAS CAFE, has its task cut out as it has to score beyond the premier cinemas for achieving commercial success.

Meanwhile, the Independence Day release, Milan Luthria’s Akshay Kumar, Imran Khan and Sonakshi Sinha starrer, ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAI DOBAARA managed to take advantage of the Raksha Bandhan holidays and has netted 52 crore (to be validated). The film is all set to cross its prequel, ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI by the end of the second weekend itself.
Before we leave something about the biggest blockbuster of the year, Rohit Shetty’s Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer, CHENNAI EXPRESS. The film closed the second week netting 193 crore (to be validated), and is all set to cross the 200 crore mark by the third weekend, and is sure to become the biggest netter of Bollywood, beating Aamir Khan’s 3IDIOTS( 202 crore) . Needless to add that CHENNAI EXPRESS is already well past the 100 crore (gross) mark in the overseas territory, and is still going great guns!
