The premier new release of the week, MARDAANI 2, follow up to the successful MARDAANI, disappointed with a poor 10 – 15 percent start, with no pronounced pick up during the later shows as well.
The first day is estimated to be in the range of 3.50 crore, quite like the first edition. Even the Rishi-Emraan starrer, THE BODY, failed to enthuse the audience. In fact, the best opening was for the Hollywood venture JUMANJI-THE NEXT LEVEL (of the iconic JUMANJI series), as the film saw a heartwarming 20-25 percent start.
Having said that both MARDAANI 2 and THE BODY can capitalize on the remaining two days of the weekend. However, with a biggie like DABANGG 3 releasing on the coming Friday, it will keep away the audience from flocking to the theaters as the audience will hold on to their purse strings.
Meanwhile, the Kartik Aaryan starrer, PATI PATNI AUR WOH managed a good to decent 51-52 crore opening week, and as already stated in our box-office report, the film is sure to end up as at least a semi-hit and may even go up to a hit status depending on the second-week run.
Concluding with Arjun Kapoor’s PANIPAT, the film managed a 25-26 crore week, which given the huge involved costs is nothing to write home about. Adding to the woes, the controversies surrounding historical liberties resulted in subsequent financial discomfiture.
