Bollywood macho man Sunny Deol’s awaited action comedy BHAIAJI SUPERHIT has hit the theatres. Here is our review of the movie starring Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Ameesha Patel, Arshad Warsi, Evelyn Sharma and Shreyas Talpade.
Neerraj Pathak – the writer of Deol’s APNE (2007) and the director of the engaging mystery RIGHT or WRONG (2010) that saw an interesting pair of Sunny Deol and Irrfan Khan pitted against each other, gets into the Anees Bazmee mode in BHAIAJI SUPERHIT.
It’s a story of a gangster Lal Bhaisahab Dubey aka Bhaiaji (Sunny Deol) whose wife Sapna Dubey (Preity Zinta) leaves him?. The depressed Bhaiaji loses focus and interest in his work and on a recommendation by Dr. Gyan Prakash Buddisagar (Sanjay Mishra) a psychologist, Bhaiaji decides to enter into the world of movies (Hello Hello, remember Nana Patekar in WELCOME). Goldie Kapoor (Arshad Warsi) a con man disguised as a director steps in with a writer – Tarun Porno Ghosh (Shreyas Talpade). A movie on the life of Bhaiaji (Sunny Deol) has to be made. A sweet trap in Mallika Kapoor (Ameesha Patel) is also present to add glamour. Mallika will essay the role of Bhaiaji’s wife Sapna. While the madness over the making of Bhaiaji’s movie is on, rival gangster Helicopter Mishra (Jaideep Ahlawat) is planning his wicked ways to eliminate Bhaiaji and gain supremacy.
Neerraj Pathakmanages some hilarity here and there but is unable to utilize the potential of the premise. Imagine a comedy/spoof on Sunny Deol starring Sunny Deol with over the top action and fun sounds really like entertainment but we only get some hint.
Moreover, the writer director fails to give justice to the caliber of artiste like Sanjay Mishra, Brijendra Kala etc. however Sunny Deol is sincere and funny, Preity Zinta gets some meat in her role. Arshad Warsi and Shreyas Talpade have their moments. Rest of the cast are there cause they have to sign the muster.
Rest the movie has very little to offer, the long wait makes the movie look dated. Production values are okay. Vishnu Rao and Kabir Lal's cinematography tries to convince the audience that places in Mumbai and UP can be same. S Vijayan's action is passable. Editor Sandeep Francis seems to have forgotten his scissors. The music has nothing to offer with lyrics like 'Sleepy Sleepy Akhiyan' adds to the boredom.
It’s loud and clear that even two Sunny Deols cannot save a bad movie like BHAIAJI SUPERHIT and its not Sunny Deol’s fault.
