It has been a very interesting battle at the box-office this week with T-Series’ NAUTANKI SAALA and Vipul Shah’s COMMANDO-A ONE MAN ARMY vying for honours. To know more and the exact situation we got in touch with three major cinema chains Cinemax, PVR and Cinepolis and here are the raw facts.

As per Mr. Girish Wankhade, DGM Cinemax, “Both COMMANDO and NAUTANKI SAALA saw an average response on the first day, but the next two days saw NAUTANKI SAALA establishing a comfortable lead over COMMANDO. If we talk about the average occupancy across our properties; on the first day COMMANDO opened to a 35 percent response while NAUTANKI SAALA had a 30 percent start. On Saturday, COMMANDO was still at 35 percent but NAUTANKI SAALA jumped to 40 percent. On Sunday NAUTANKI SAALA improved further to 45 percent while COMMANDO managed 38 percent. By and large, COMMANDO had started on good note at the massy centres (due to the action genre) but given the good word-of-mouth, NAUTANKI SAALA has established a comfortable lead thanks to the multiplex audience. Today (Monday) both the films are doing reasonably.”
CHECK OUT: NAUTANKI SAALA overpowers COMMANDO!
Coming to PVR Cinema’s programming head, Mr. Prakhar Joshi, he told us, “As far as our properties are concerned, COMMANDO has done very well in U.P., Central India, Marathwada and Gujarat (Surat), and during the weekend netted about 78 lakhs In case of NAUTANKI SAALA the film has done good business netting 2 crores at our chain (opening weekend). The average occupancy for COMMANDO is in the 40-50 percent range, while for NAUTANKI SAALA it has been 80-90 percent (Saturday and Sunday).
When we asked Devang D. Sampat, Head (Strategic Initiatives), Cinepolis, he told us, “As you know we have 53 screens across India. In places like Surat and Patna COMMANDO is doing quite well but at the remaining places (A and B centers) it is NAUTANKI SAALA which has managed good numbers. On an average, NAUTANKI SAALA has done double the business of COMMANDO, barring the two above mentioned places.”
While that is the report straight from the people who matter, we wish the best to both the films, Vidyut Jammwal’s COMMANDO and Ayushmann Khurrana’s NAUTANKI SAALA.
