In the season of biggies where there is promo of at least one major flick arriving every week, a film that has thrown a pleasant surprise is JOHN DAY. While Bollywood is enjoying its regular dose of action, comedy, horror and romantic genre, this Naseeruddin Shah-Randeep Hooda starrer makes one stand up and notice the edgy dramatic flavour that it carries.
"That's the way it has been designed," says a source, who has had a dekko at the film, 'The film is an intriguing dramatic thriller with a unique storyline. That is expected as well since both the lead actors, Naseer saab as well as Randeep, are known for making unique choices. Seldom do you find them in conventional Hindi cinema. This is the USP of JOHN DAY too as it is taking its own route while still being in the realms of mainstream cinema."
The film's plot is centered on the mysterious death of a young girl which unfolds a web of secrets and a conspiracy. What follows next is a tussle between JOHN DAY (Naseeruddin Shah), father of the girl and Gautam (Randeep Hooda), a cop who doesn't quite have any purpose in life.
"Time and again one hears stories about moral dilemma where the thin line that separates the saint and the beast gets blurred; JOHN DAY is one such story," the source continues, "Of course a lot more would be revealed about the film in days to come but one thing which is sure is that JOHN DAY will set you thinking, both during it's play on screen as well as when you step out of theatres."
We would look forward to that experience indeed once this debut outing of director Ahishor Solomon with Anjum Rizvi, K. Asif and Aatef A. Khan as producers releases all over exactly a month from now i.e. 14th September 2013.
