With two similar genre films, OMG OH MY GOD! and KAMAAL DHAMAAL MALAMAAL, releasing on the same day, they were bound to cut into each other's business, as we had already stated in our box -office report. And that is what has happened, and the result is there for all to see!
While Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal starrer, OMG OH MY GOD!, saw a decent 30-45 percent start, the Priyadarshan directed KAMAAL DHAMAAL MALAMAAL (lacking in star value) saw an ordinary 15-25 percent opening. Ironically both the films are faring best in the Mumbai-Maharashtra and Gujarat belt.
As things stand, the word-of-mouth is reasonably positive for OMG!, while the same cannot be said for KDM. And due to this, OMG (already profitable for it's makers), will be a plus fare for it's distributors (due to the reasonable procurement costs) as well, while KDM will find it hard to break even.
Meanwhile, last Friday's Madhur Bhandarkar directed, HEROINE, could not quite capitalize on a decent weekend, and managed stable but low end collections during the weekdays, netting 32 crore (to be validated) during the first week.
Due to the fact that ZEE has already relinquished the satellite rights, and moreover the not so impressive run at the theaters will make matters worse, as the film may not get a good satellite price in future.
Keeping the above factor(s) in mind, the Kareena Kapoor starrer may be lucky to get to an average status.
