Omung Kumar on MARY KOM being tax-free: It will be a profitable venture

Priyanka Chopra’s MARY KOM has been declared tax free in UP and Maharashtra. It’s perhaps the first Bollywood film which has been made tax- free before its release. 

Omung Kumar, who is making his directorial debut with the movie said, “Yes it has been made tax-free in Maharashtra and UP. However, I am not sure whether it is the first film to be announced as tax-free even before its release.” 

When asked whether it would be made tax-free in other states as well, Omung said, ‘It depends on state to state. While UP and Maharashtra showed their eagerness, we’ve also approached Delhi, Gujarat and other states but we haven’t got any reply yet.”

Ask Omung if it would impact MARY KOM’s business and he says, ‘It will become a profitable venture for everyone. The producers will earn more. The film will earn more because of the tax-free aspect. Moreover, it is not about commercial thing. It is to reach out the film to maximum people.” 

MARY KOM is all set to release on 5th September.
