Radhika Apte, the new ‘IT’ girlRadhika Apte is proving to be the new ‘IT’ girl. After her performance in BADLAPUR, followed by HUNTERR, she established her credentials as a powerful performer ‘in any scenario’. MANJHI was just the icing on the cake.
Surprisingly, it took a good 10 years for her to actually breakthrough the mediocrity of anonymity, where most talented actors are today. Thanks to BADLAPUR, she captured everyone’s imagination with an impressive performance. She metamorphoses into any character the director wants her to. Portraying Manjhi’s wife Phaguniya Devi, she was every inch this villager, right from her looks to her body language and devotion to her husband.
'Every inch of her inspires me!''
Sujoy Ghosh’s short film AHALYA, which did the rounds recently on social media, saw her in the avatar of a seductress. Not that she has to play one!
Radhika is blessed with oddles of oomph and sizzle and a ‘sexy screen presence’. No item girls are a patch on her with their plastic smiles and plastic moves. This is performance that comes from within and beauty that blazes a trail. What strikes out best about her is her ‘natural’ beauty!
Like her the actor who plays her husband in AHALYA says, “Every inch of her inspires me!”
Parineeti, Huma and their choice of films!
Speaking about ‘mediocrity of anonymity where most talented actors are today’, I am reminded of Parineeti Chopra and Huma Qureshi. Both the girls made an impact with their debut performances. Chopra with LADIES VS RICKY BAHL and Qureshi with GANGS OF WASEYPUR. Post that, the actors have fallen into a rut, desperately trying to break the shackles of monotony.
Time to make the right choice
Mind you, both the girls are scorchers in their own right and are capable of setting the screen on fire like Radhika Apte. However, their choice of films seems to be their undoing.
Both have gotten into the routine mode of displaying similar characters while Qureshi also made a rash decision of taking on the role she did in BADLAPUR. That role was not meant for an actor of her caliber.
Hopefully, both should break through from the pattern they have set. They can take heart from the fact that Radhika took 10 years from the time she hit the screen to actually make a lasting impression.
Radhika was part of VAAH! LIFE HO TOH AISI in 2005!
Mannara, another sizzler in the offing!
Since we are onto sizzlers and actors with potential, I cannot miss out on another Chopra girl who actually made a bad film bearable simply by her presence. I am speaking about Mannara who was born Barbie Handa, who is also a cousin of Priyanka Chopra and Parineeti.
Mannara made Zid bearable
If not for Mannara, who made her debut in ZID, last November, the audience would have been snored away. She not only looked her part-that of a sexy psycho-but also acted with conviction. A little polishing and the right diet will do wonders for her image.
There we go; Radhika Apte is having competition at the ‘sizzle counter’.
