A film that revolves around a journalist that decides to travel to India and cover Indian marriages for her magazine, 5 WEDDINGS is a story that’s a true mix of fun and substance. The journalist, played by Nargis Fakhri lands up into mishaps and trouble as she is intrigued by and explores the Hijra society in India.
The film unit has had a crazy time shooting for the movie, with each one full of anecdotes that they’ve taken back with them. One such instance was while shooting an airport scene outside Chandigarh airport with Rajkummar Rao. The scene required Rajkummar Rao to run for at least 2 miles and even though director Namrata Singh Gujral asked Rajkummar to use his stand-in, the actor was extremely keen on doing the entire running take himself. Rajkummar chose to run from the car to the airport terminal himself and he did as many takes as needed for the perfect shot.
The best part of this, as the director Namrata recalls, was that Rajkummar is so fit that even running for almost two miles for every take the actor would have to pretend to be out of breath. “I was like, Raj – just use your stand in. And we will do close-ups with you. Such is his dedication that he wanted to do all the stuff himself. I agree – he must have run for at least two miles at sprint speed between those many takes. The crazy part is this guy had to pretend he was out of breath – he is in such good shape. I would call ‘cut’ and he would go back to normal breathing after just having sprinted for five minutes,” recollects the director of the film, Namrata Singh Gujral.
Rajkummar Rao was caught on set between takes saying “I prefer to do it (the running) myself… it helps me stay in character”.
Well, we can say Raj, your dedication to your craft has definitely brought you far and with your perseverance, you will touch the skies.
Namrata, who was to star in the movie herself initially is extremely happy with the final product and cannot wait to release the film to its viewers. 5 WEDDINGS is produced by Hollywood based Uniglobe Entertainment and out in 52 countries on 26 October 2018.
