Maddock Films and D2R Film Pvt Ltd’s Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor starrer STREE continues to scare away the competition (read as Dutta’s PALTAN and Imtiaz’s LAILA MAJNU), netting a superb 22 crore during the second weekend. What it means is that STREE has netted a huge 82 crore in 10–days from India which makes the 24 crore cost film an impending blockbuster.
While we were quite optimistic about the above stated outcome for STREE, an interesting point is that the Krishna DK and Raj Nidimoru film is sure to zip past much bigger and lavishly mounted projects such as Akshay Kumar’s GOLD (103 crore-expected) and the John Abraham venture SATYAMEVA JAYATE (86 crore). In the process the Amar Kaushik directed venture becomes the third sleeper blockbuster after Luv Ranjan’s SONU KE TITU KI SWEETY and Alia Bhatt’s RAAZI. In addition to that STREE has also grossed $ 600,000 from the overseas.
Well, it is becoming obvious that the audience has decided to patronise content based unconventional films as opposed to archaic commercial and predictable offerings.
