“Ranbir has been a friend and I have known him since I was a child. We have discussed movies and cinema way before he made his debut in Bollywood with SAAWARIYA. We spend lot more time together. When I wrote this film I went up to him straight when he was shooting in the US. He reacted positively, came down to Mumbai and two months later he said I am on board,” reveals Vikramjit
Despite being friends with the actor, it wasn’t a cakewalk for Vikramjit to have him in the film. According to the director, Ranbir doesn’t work with friends.
“Ranbir has lot of friends in this business probably closer friends than he is with me. He is an actor with lot of integrity and choses movies correctly. Ranbir Kapoor doesn’t work with friends. He is the most selfish actor in this universe and when in say this I will say it on his face. The day Ranbir starts doing a film for friendship, he will let himself down. And I know he won’t allow that to happen. As a well-wisher and friend of him, I hope he doesn’t change his stance. He does films which he feels have merit and ROY came with the same deal,” clarifies Vikramjit.

“Having said that, once he is on the set, Ranbir is the most fantastic actor to have there. It’s not a surprise to me why every director goes to him and signs him again. He is a pure pleasure to work with, a professional to the core, and every director’s dream,” he adds.
While there have been speculations around Ranbir not endorsing the film, Vikramjit clears the air, “I know there have been speculations from media. Ranbir is also the guy who stays away from the media and doesn’t clarify his stance at several times. When the first news broke out that Ranbir is upset about the campaign that was the most ridiculous thing to happen. So, the next day I called him to clarify and he expressed “who’s upset? It’s people who are saying so”. So its people who fabricated stories.”
According to Vikramjit ROY would be Ranbir’s one of the best performances. “This was a very weird part for him to do because he hasn’t done something like this before. So, I am really proud of his part in the film and just can’t wait to watch because probably this is one of his best performances. He is damn good in the film. I am too his fan and I think he will rock in ROY,” says the filmmaker.
Produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series, ROY is all set to hit the screens on February 13, 2015.
