The controversy surrounding RANI OF JHANSI is getting hotter day by day. Remember a ‘hurt’ Ketan Mehta sending a legal notice to Kangana Ranaut alleging that she conspired with producer Kamal Jain and 'hijacked' his project RANI OF JHANSI – THE WARRIOR QUEEN.
It must be recalled that Kangana Ranaut and Ketan Mehta had collaborated for RANI OF JHANSI – THE WARRIOR QUEEN, pre – production work had begun but suddenly Kangana surprised everyone by announcing a new biopic on the legendary warrior queen of India – Rani Lakshmibai by the name MAMIKARNIKA – THE QUEEN OF JHANSI, with a different director, Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi.
Replying to Ketan Mehta’s allegations, Kangana Ranaut has issued a statement through her lawyer which reads as follows
1. There is no similarity in the story and screenplay of Mr. Mehta and the story and screenplay of my Producers (sic) Kamal Jain.
2. He is free to make the film, as is anyone else based on a revered historical figure, Rani Lakshmi Bai.
3. Our lawyers have sent an interim response to Mr. Mehta's lawyers.
4. There are no contracts or agreements signed with Mr. Mehta ever.
Ketan had cried foul and said that based on her agreement to do the film, he shared the script and research material. Reportedly, he was under the assumption that Kangana was still a part of his film until he learnt of the developments through the media.
