Filmmaker Rensil D’Silva is now heaving a sigh of relief what with his film UNGLI finally seeing the light of the day. After going through various delays, UNGLI, produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions is slated to release this November.
Quiz Rensil how did he manage to convince Karan Johar to produce UNGLI, and he reveals, “I don’t think Karan Johar is ever going to get a rom-com from me to be honest. He will never get a boy meets girl, sing 4 songs type films from me. I have nothing against that. It is a valid cinema and makes its money, but I don’t write that. Look at my filmography – AKS, RANG DE BASANTI, KURBAAN, SOTY, 24, UNGLI, SHOEBITE. So he knows what he has got on-board. I think he reacted very fast to it. Karan knew this is something socially relevant and people will quickly catch it if done right and done in a young voice.”
He further added, “Audience is very smart. They will walk out of the theatre even if you show them 6-7 packs. They are not interested. Karan told me it is a relevant film and asked me to go ahead with it. It is commercial in its own way. UNGLI might not be a DNA of Dharma. AGNEEPATH isn’t a DNA of Dharma, just that it was made earlier by the production house. It is revenge drama.”
UNGLI stars Emraan Hashmi, Kangana Ranaut, Sanjay Dutt, Randeep Hooda, Angad Bedi and Neil Bhoopalam in the lead. The film releases on November 28, 2014.
