Ask him how he feels about exploring various genres and he discloses, ”It’s quite different. I’m working with wonderful directors this year and exploring three different genres. I am very excited. It is good when people don’t expect this from me.”
He further explains, ”I wanted LAI BHAARI to release in January. But it didn’t happen. Then EK VILLAIN was supposed to come in April. That also didn’t happen. So it was actually LAI BHAARI, EK VILLAIN and HUMSHAKALS in that order. But everything has come together, and thankfully that has worked in my favour because everything is different and has a separate appeal to it.”

So what kind of response is he getting for his varied roles?
”The kind of response I’m getting is ‘Oh we want to see what Riteish has done in EK VILLAIN and LAI BHAARI’. For me it is a scary change. Because I didn’t want the people to say oh God he is a misfit here. But so far so good, the response has been amazing.”
Probe him further on how he managed to switch himself according to the character, keeping in mind he was shooting for the films simultaneously and he reveals, ”For me it was something I have never done. I always thought that this is the darkest thing so let’s give it a shot,” explains Deshmukh adding further, ”Salman Khan had once asked me you know what is acting? He then told me that acting is a background score. Same look but different background score. And I agree to him. Your character and expression changes with the change in music.”

So has it been a conscious decision to try different stuff and Riteish clarifies, ”Well you can say so. Ram Gopal Varma is the only director who didn’t do a comedy film with me. And because those films failed, I chose to stay in my comfort zone which is comedy. But I wanted to see myself in these roles hence I gave it a try. For instance, I would be excited to see Govinda in a negative role.”
Meanwhile, Riteish’s HUMSHAKALS releases on June 20, EK VILLAIN on June 27 and LAI BHAARI hits the screens on July 11, 2014.
