The premier release of the week, the Balki directed, Amitabh Bachchan starrer, SHAMITABH, opened to a surprisingly decent start at the multiplexes, despite an off-beat subject. The film is fairing best in the South, Mumbai and Kolkata. Given the positive word of mouth, mega star Amitabh Bachchan’s mind-blowing vintage performance and Balki’s good direction (as always), SHAMITABH should manage a healthy weekend gross.

Meanwhile, after a fair weekend Vishesh Films’ venture, KHAMOSHIYAN, held quite well during the weekdays netting around 11 crore during the opening week. Given the 7.5 crore satellite right already in, the modestly budgeted KHAMOSHIYAN, appears to be a plus venture.

The other release of the same week, the lavishly mounted HAWAIZAADA, with a high budget (given the cast) of over 20 crore, failed to enthuse the audience and is a commercial failure, but surely not critically.
Concluding with Neeraj Pandey’s Akshay Kumar starrer, BABY, after a praiseworthy opening week, (62 crore), the film maintained very well in the second week, netting around 80 crore in two weeks from India. With over $2m from the overseas, and the non-theatrical rights still to be accounted for, the T-Series venture, BABY, has turned out to be rare critical and commercial success.
