Sujoy Ghosh to direct Balaji Motion Pictures’ next, an adaptation of Japanese novel

After the success of the blockbuster Vidya Balan starrer KAHAANI, acclaimed director Sujoy Ghosh has been roped in by Balaji Motion Pictures to direct his next, an adaptation of the book, ‘The Devotion of Suspect X’. Incidentally, Sujay Ghosh’s KAHAANI was said to have copied its climax from an international film TAKING LIVES starring Angelina Jolie.


Sujay Ghosh would be directing the film whose rights have been acquired by Balaji Motion Pictures Ltd.

‘The Devotion of Suspect X’, a novel by Keigo Higashino, is the third in his cult Detective Galileo series and his most acclaimed work so far. The novel won the 6th Honkaku Mystery Grand Prize, one of the most prestigious awards in the mystery novels category in Japan.

Commenting on the deal, said Tanuj Garg, CEO – Balaji Motion Pictures, ”We are proud to have clinched the rights of one of the world’s most celebrated detective novels. It has heart, drama and thrill, and as a content-driven studio, we believe that it will make for an engaging and entertaining feature film.”

The writing is underway and the cast is still to be finalized. The principal photography is expected to commence in early-2014.

Recently, Rajkumar Gupta, who gave films like AAMIR, NO ONE KILLED JESSICA &, GHANCHAKKAR, signed a deal with Disney UTV to direct the screen adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s popular novel ‘Revolution 2020’. And in the past also many filmmakers have made films based on novels.

Seems like our filmmakers’ fascination for screen adaption of novels will never cease!
