Hindi cinema boasts of some iconic villains like Kanhaiyalal, Ajit, Amjad Khan, Amrish Puri Prem Chopra, Ranjeet, Danny, Shakti Kapoor and Gulshan Grover, to name a few, but the trend changed somewhat in the 70s-80s, where some of the top stars essayed characters having shades of grey. In case of ladies, there were the occasional Shashi Kalas and Lalita Pawars, but not many.
However, it was Urmila with KAUN, Kajol in GUPT, Priyanka via AITRAAZ and Aishwarya in KHAKEE, who shocked and awed with brilliant negative portrayals. And one was forced to sit and admire such beautiful leading ladies going chillingly grey with a vengeance. But now one of the best actress of recent times Tabu has made it a habit.
Yes, the highly versatile Tabu made one jump out of the seat in Sunny Deol’s JAAL -THE TRAP. Recently she wowed the audience with another stellar performance in Vishal Bhardwaj’s award winning HAIDER. The upcoming DRISHYAM seems to be another role by her with shades of grey, where apparently Tabu seems to browbeat Ajay Devgan into submission.
Well, we too have not had enough and are looking forward to this July end for DRISHYAM, where cop Tabu takes on singham Ajay.
