Yesterday we read about the genius of music legend C. Ramchandra who made the excellent tune of the song Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon…Now read how the war broke out between Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle to sing the song.
Readers would be stunned to know that the song was originally assigned to be sung by Asha Bhosle and not Lata Mangeshkar, because, it's music composer, the exceptionally talented, C. Ramchandra – who gave hits like Bhagwan Dada's ALBELA, Dilip Kumar's – AZAAD, and the 50's Super-Duper musical hit – ANARKALI, was not on speaking terms with Lata due to some 'rift' between the two. Hence Asha was the obvious choice.
But Lata Mangeshkar was so obsessed with Kavi Pradeep's lyrics that she was ready to sacrifice anything that included even crushing her egos with C. Ramchandra! In fact, to keep C. Ramchandra's ego alive, so that he agrees to work with her, she was even ready to do the song in a duet with Asha Bhosle.
In nut-shell, do-or-die, Lata, somehow wanted to be part of this memorable song.
Seeing Lata's intensity towards the song Kavi Pradeep took the initiative. He immediately intervened between C. Ramchandra and Lata and was able to dissolve their ego hassles as Kavi Pradeep felt the song would have lost its essence without Lata Mangeshkar singing it. C. Ramchandra, too, coolly shed off his ego with Lata as in the heart of his heart's he too secretly desired the 'Melody Queen'- Lata Mangeshkar to sing as he himself believed that Lata Mangeshkar was the 'Only' singer who could do justice to his composition.
Also Lata singing to his composition in the jam packed, Delhi's National Stadium, in front of the honourable Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was a matter of great pride for the composer.
As C. Ramchandra 'willed' so did it happen!
