The prominent release of the week, Yash Raj Films’ Varun-Anushka starrer SUI DHAAGA- MADE IN INDIA, managed a fair to decent start of 20 percent on an average, which is a not as ordinary as it appears because it has released on a high number of screens (2500). The latter shows could have seen some pick up but were hit by the cricket match. Having said that, the film is sure to manage a good weekend and then capitalise on the Tuesday National holiday (Gandhi Jayanti).
The other major release of the week, Vishal Bhardwaj Picture Pvt. Ltd.’s PATAAKHA, could not quite strike a chord with the audience managing a below 10 percent start. In it’s defence, the film was never expected to set the box-office on fire and can still make amends during weekend and the above mentioned National holiday.
Meanwhile, Shree Narayan Singh’s Shahid-Shraddha starrer, BATTI GUL METER CHALU failed to capitalise on a decent weekend (23.25 crore), ending the week with a 31-32 crore haul. Given that nearly 60 percent investment has already been recovered from non-theatrical rights, the film can still harbour hopes of a below average status.
Concluding with Anurag Kashyap’s Abhishek, Vicky and Taapsee starrer MANMARZIYAAN, the film fell heavily during the second week adding another 6 crore, thus netting 28 crore (to be validated) in two weeks from India and will struggle for recovery.
