“Didn’t know QUEEN will become so huge. It was totally driven by the audience. The film hardly got any opening (1 crore) but it went on to do 60 times business eventually,” said the director.
On being asked whom would he dedicate the award to, he said, “I would like to dedicate QUEEN’s National Award to a person named Vikram Malhotra who helped me tremendously in making the film. He was the main producer when we started to make the film.”
He went on to add, “When we were shooting in Paris for the film, we didn’t have money. On the 7th day of the Paris shoot, we almost packed up and were ready to fly back home. But luckily at that time, Vikram from Viacom supported the film and that’s why we were able to complete the film.”
When asked if his journey has become easier because of QUEEN, Vikas said, “It’s become easier in the sense that now I can write more films. I love making films and hopefully after QUEEN, I’ll be able to make more films.”
Vikas tried to play it safe when asked if the National Awards are as good as the Oscars. “I don’t think you can compare. I think all the Awards are at different levels. But my satisfaction at this level is very high,” said Vikas on a concluding note.
