Kishore Kumar did begin his career as film actor but it was his intense desire to become a singer which ultimately turned true. Today he may be no more with us but not a single day passes when we do not hear his songs either on radio on TV.
October 13, marks the death anniversary of the legendary singer; Glamsham.Com pays him our humble homage and reveals about his versatility because in the annals of Indian cinema, he remains the only singer who holds the rare distinction of singing a song in both male and female voices!!
The song that Kishore Kumar sung in both the voices is from the movie HALF TICKET (1962) that stars Kishore Kumar, Madhubala, and Pran. The movie is hilarious roller coaster. In this film Kishore Kumar disguises himself in many characters from a 12 year school boy to a gypsy lady, who is on a run from the villain (Pran) who is after him to recover an expensive diamond that he has hidden in Kishore Kumar’s pocket, while Kishore Kumar was ignorant about it.
In a chase sequence when Pran is following Kishore Kumar, he disguises himself as a gypsy lady and tries to deceive him. The scene has a funny duet song picturised on Kishore Kumar and Pran. The song is ‘Aa ke seedhi lagi jaise dil pe katariya’
According to music composer Salil Choudhary, ”The song was originally to be sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar but on the day of recording Lata didi could not come and requested to postpone the recording. I agreed. But Kishore Kumar, who is known for his funny antics suddenly persuaded me to allow him to sing the female version too.”
He added, ”I declined but Kishore became adamant and began singing the song in female version. Everybody present in the recording studio, including Pran Sahab and the director Kalidas were amused and felt as per the movie’s hilarious situation, the song will really spark laugh riot, if Kishore sings in female version. Thus the song was recorded and as anticipate proved a hit.”
