To err is human goes the proverb and it’s true also because no man on earth is perfect and it is with our mistakes we learn to improve. But when it comes to Bollywood movies these mistakes are so inane that it is impossible to pardon them like – An actor jumping into a river and in the very next shot he or she is seen emerging out from the river completely dry and what’s more with changed garbs!!!
One similar error was made way back in 1960s by one of the great film maestro of Indian cinema viz. Kamal Amrohi in his movie – DIL APNA AUR PREET PARAYI – which was noticed by an eagle eye of a film journalist who created sort of a storm by his mighty pen in his widely read column through a leading newspaper.
According to the reports, the journalist criticised the movie’s climax shot that depicted the heroine, Meena Kumari, who played the role of a nurse in the movie committing suicide by jumping into the river wearing a Nurse uniform but in the next immediate shot when the hero Raaj Kumar rescues her she is seen in his arms draped in a drenched white saree!!!
The journalist asked Mr. Amrohi bluntly was there a wardrobe underneath the river where Meena Kumari changed her uniform.
The scene created a furor among movie buffs so much so that irked over the criticism on her husband Kamal Amrohi, reader may be stunned to know that Meena Kumari issued an advertisement in the same newspaper clarifying that she was dressed in the nurse uniform and not in sari (saree) by publishing the picture of the same shot from the actual negative cutting of the movie. Since the scene was picturised in a long shot hence people could not view clearly whether Meena Kumari was actually wearing Nurse uniform or a sari, however the still published in the advertisement clearly depicted Meena Kumari draped in the nurse uniform!!! Thus, restoring the prestige of her genius director cum husband Kamal Amrohi.
