Who composed the lyrics of ‘Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon…’ – Part II

Yesterday you read why was the famous song Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon… conceived? Let's now raise the curtains on how the seeds for the majestic patriotic number got germinated. The movement the Government's call for the musical Nite splashed in media, Kavi Pradeep, known as, 'The Bonafide Super-Patriotic' film lyricist of Indian Cinema' jumped for it. Within a couple of days he was ready with the heart rending admonition persuading the nation -'Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon..'

What's more… He had even prepared his 'own' tune for the song. Such was his passion! But when he consulted with C. Ramchandra, who was actually assigned the song felt the tune needed metamorphosis. On discussion when Kavi Pradeep first sung out his composition of tune, it was on a high note- remember that beginning – high note – Tum Khoob Laga Lo Naara …

That was the original tuning for the song, if, C. Ramchandra had given his consent, but C. Ramchandra, after, a patient hearing felt otherwise. He felt the tune was 'too loud' and also not an instant attention grabber. He opened his heart to Kavi Pradeep. He said, ''I doubt this tune would to go down as an instant hit with the masses – what we need is a simpler tune for the common man seated out in open who 'must' latch on to our song on the spot!''

After listening to C. Ramchandra's reaction, a pin-drop silence prevailed for a while. Then after a few seconds C. Ramchandra broke the silence with the sound of his Harmonium playing a simpler tune listening which both Kavi Pradeep was delighted because C. Ramchandra had just re-tuned the main portion of the song as – Zaraa Aankh Mein Bhar Lo Paani, even while retaining Pradeep's – Tum Khoob Laga Lo Naara's high not at the beginning thus nursing Pradeep's egos, too.

Thus the tune was finalized in 'Less than a minute'. Kavi Pradeep, always mention C. Ramchandra as the main 'hero' behind the 'Aye Mere…' creation and how the brilliant composer composed this 'Evergreen' tune in a minute's span!
