He may have ensured that due to his stardom, BESHARAM saw a good opening at the box-office, as much as in the excess of 20 crore. However his choice of film has met with a severe backlash, what with many drubbing the film as the worst ever career decision made by Ranbir Kapoor who very recently was on the verge of finding a place amongst the three Khans.

“The manner in which BESHARAM has been panned by one and all has pretty much turned out to be a ‘law of averages’ moment for Ranbir,” quips a trade source, “Just when Ranbir had won quite some brownie points for his choice of films and commercial sense, case in point being YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI, BARFI! and ROCKSTAR, a film like BESHARAM has ended up raising eyebrows all over again.”
Considering the fact that Ranbir had supported the film whole-heartedly from its very inception when Abhinav Kashyap was putting together the project more than a year ago, it has made many wonder what the young superstar saw in the script to give it a go ahead.
“It is not a bad idea to demonstrate an actor’s super-stardom. However, there has to be some semblance of script in the background. You can’t have isolated pieces put together in the name of a film and presented to the audience,” an observer adds.

Thankfully though, as an actor Ranbir hasn’t seen much of a damage and has seen fairly decent response coming his way. However, considering the fact that he allowed himself to be in the middle of the mayhem that BESHARAM had to promise, it is pretty much expected that decision making for his next few films would be much closely deliberated.
His next couple of films lends a flavour of some experimentation coming into play as well, case in point being ROY and BOMBAY VELVET. However with Anurag Basu making JAGGA JASOOS with him and Imtiaz Ali all set to kick-start a film with him and Deepika Padukone, Ranbir has enough ammunition in place to make sure that the likes of BESHARAM are forgotten sooner than ever before.
